Music Theory And Harmony I
7530 Grades 10-12 1 Credit 1 Semester Weight of 1.0
This course is an introduction to the mechanics and language of music. The students will gain knowledge of the basic fundamentals of music and build on that knowledge. This is basically a "hands-on" course that will challenge the students to produce their own compositions. Ear training, sight reading, keyboard skills, listening and computer work will be included along with historical study.
Music Theory And Harmony II
7535 Grades 11-12 1 Credit 1 Semester Weight of 1.2
Prerequisite: Successful completion Music Theory and Harmony I.
This course is a continuation of the Level I course. The course will include advanced study of form, harmonic structure, compositional skills, and arranging. Independent study is of major importance to this course.
Digital Music
7540 Grades 9-12 1 Credit 1 Semester Weight of 1.1
This is a course in digital music production. The course will focus on composition of music using digital media. Rhythm and piano skills will be developed along with a basic knowledge of music theory and harmony. Students will also learn recording and mixing techniques. The course is open to anyone interested in building their skills and exploring digital music creation. No previous performance experience is required.
Symphonic Band

Prerequisite: Membership is by audition and is based on technical proficiency and music reading skills and demonstrated musicianship.
The Symphonic Band is designed to challenge the skills and musicianship of students who have attained above average musical technique and skills. Students need to have an existing understanding of music reading. Emphasis is placed on musical excellence through the study, rehearsal and performance of grade 4 to 6 band literature. Attention is given to continued development of interpretive and stylistic characteristics of music. Much of the music studied in the instructional program is presented in public performance. This is a performance-based course; therefore, attendance at all performances is required. Students must register for both semesters.
Concert Band

Prerequisite: Membership in the Concert Band is open to interested students with instrumental experience.
The Concert Band is designed to develop musical skills. Emphasis is placed on developing musicianship and reading skills presented during lessons and rehearsals. This is a performance-based course, therefore, attendance at all performances is required. No audition is required. Students must register for both semesters.

Mixed Chorus

The Mixed Chorus is a singing group for any interested student who wishes to be part of a large choral organization. Music of varied styles and periods, both sacred and secular, will be studied, rehearsed and performed. Previous singing experience is helpful, but not required. This is a performance-based course, therefore, attendance at all performances is required. Students must register for both semesters.
Concert Chorale

Prerequisite: Membership is by audition and is based on vocal proficiency, music reading skills and demonstrated musicianship.
The Concert Chorale is an auditioned choral ensemble. This ensemble will study, rehearse and perform choral music of a high degree of difficulty. Repertoire will include music of varied styles and periods, both sacred and secular. This is a performance-based course, therefore, attendance at all performances is required. Students must register for both semesters.
MASH Philharmonic

This orchestral ensemble is comprised of 10th, 11th and 12th grade string students. Students must audition for placement in this ensemble. The audition will occur in March/April of each preceding school year to coordinate with the course selection time frame, or immediately upon registration for any new student to the district who is interested in being part of this ensemble. Through this advanced ensemble setting, players will gain knowledge and experience of performance and high-level musicianship. Repertoire will include a variety of advanced selections from past century and present day composers. This ensemble will perform in 5 district-related concerts throughout the school year as well as various community events. Students must register for both semesters.

This orchestral ensemble is comprised of all incoming 9th grade strings students as well as 10th, 11th, and 12th grade string players who were not selected for, or did not audition for MASH Philharmonic. Through the ensemble setting, players will gain knowledge and experience of performance and overall musicianship. Repertoire will include a variety of selections from past century and present day composers. This music is chosen to enhance the student’s technique and develop more advanced skills. This ensemble will perform in 5 district-related concerts throughout the school year. Students must register for both semesters.
